Erawadee No.1 Ya Bamrung Rangkai Thai 70 Herb Tonic Blend

Ya Bamrung Rangkai — literally "the medicine that nourishes the body" — is the classic Thai general tonic, and Erawadee's No.1 is a dried blend of around seventy herbs, roots and barks led by black ginger (Kaempferia parviflora) at 20%. You prepare it yourself at home, either as a boiled water infusion or the traditional Thai way, steeped in spirit with a little honey. It is meant as a daily tonic taken over a period, not a one-off drink, and the same batch of dried mixture can be used twice.

How to Use

Alcohol infusion: pour 2–4 litres of vodka over the dried mixture in a clean glass container, optionally adding 4 tablespoons of honey, and leave to infuse for up to 10 days, stirring from time to time. Water infusion: pour 2 litres of water over the mixture, boil for 10 minutes, leave to infuse for 2 hours, then strain. The mixture can be used a second time within 30 days; store the dried mixture in a shady place at room temperature. This is a traditional herbal preparation, not a medicine. Follow the directions on the package.

Black ginger (Kaempferia parviflora) 20%, Elephantopus scaber 10%, Ficus foveolata 10%, Lasianthus puberulus 10%, Betula alnoides 10%, Anaxagorea luzonensis 10%, goji berry (Lycium barbarum) 10%, licorice root (Glycyrrhiza uralensis) 10%, other herbs 10%. The full blend runs to around 70 botanicals, including Chinese angelica (Angelica sinensis).
